HUNTINGDON VALLEY, PA, November 7, 2008 - Farlex, Inc., publisher of the world's most comprehensive database of online reference material, has expanded the multilingual content available on its flagship site, TheFreeDictionary.com, by introducing a new foreign language thesaurus section as well as additional multilingual dictionary resources and a dictionary translator tool.
In May, Farlex announced the largest single addition of reference material to TheFreeDictionary, including, for the first time, foreign language resources. The intensely positive user response to those four initial foreign language dictionaries encouraged the development team to further enhance the site's multilingual offerings, and, just months later, Farlex released TheFreeDictionary's newly expanded translations section, which allows users to translate dictionary terms from English into 42 different languages.
TheFreeDictionary.com's popular homepage is available in 11 languages—English, Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish—and provides international visitors with the ability to access the site's user-friendly interface in their own native languages. With this newest release of multilingual content, Farlex has further expanded the educational resources available to its international user base. Now, users can not only access dictionary content in these languages, they can view synonyms in the newly added thesaurus section and translate dictionary entries into a multitude of languages. Examples of this expanded content can be found at http://es.thefreedictionary.com/ and http://fr.thefreedictionary.com/, the site's Spanish and French homepages.
"There has been an incredibly positive user response following each release of foreign language content," said Steve Boymel, co-founder and executive vice president of Farlex, Inc., "and the addition of these new tools and resources will further enrich the experience of our international users."
TheFreeDictionary.com debuted as a simple, free online dictionary catering to U.S. customers and has since evolved into one of the most authoritative reference sites on the Web, serving a global network of users. In August, TheFreeDictionary reached an exciting milestone, welcoming its billionth visitor in just five years. At that time, Farlex's founders reaffirmed their commitment to making TheFreeDictionary the best reference tool on the Web, assuring users that they would continue to improve and expand the site's many educational offerings.
