TheFreeDictionary.com Welcomes Two Billionth Visitor

HUNTINGDON VALLEY, Pa., April 14, 2010 -- Farlex, Inc., publisher of the world’s most comprehensive online database of reference information (www.TheFreeDictionary.com), announced today that its flagship site has broken a new record, welcoming its two billionth visitor since the website’s launch in the spring of 2003.

“We are so grateful to all of our users for helping us reach this remarkable milestone,” said Steve Boymel, co-founder and executive vice president of Farlex, Inc. “Since we first created TheFreeDictionary, it has been our mission to make it the number one reference resource on the Internet, and it is immensely gratifying to know that these efforts have not gone unnoticed.”

TheFreeDictionary debuted as a simple, free online dictionary catering to U.S. customers and has since evolved into one of the most authoritative reference sites on the web, serving a global network of users. Today, the site offers access to multilingual dictionary content in more than 40 languages; computing, medical, legal, and financial dictionaries; a thesaurus; several encyclopedias; and much more. TheFreeDictionary’s popular homepage has also been translated into 13 different languages, a development that gives international visitors the ability to access the site’s user-friendly interface in their own native languages.

The March 2009 launch of TheFreeDictionary Language Forums, a platform that allows users to discuss encyclopedic, linguistic, and other related topics, reflects Farlex’s unflagging commitment to providing its users with an unparalleled and multifaceted educational experience; and the success of the forums—more than 9,000 users have already registered accounts with the site—demonstrates that TheFreeDictionary continues to grow in the right direction.

Nick Simonov, co-founder and president of Farlex, Inc., believes the site’s immense popularity is directly related to such developments. “Reaching two billion visitors in just seven years is an incredible accomplishment,” he said. “We are so proud of the work we have done to create such a versatile and comprehensive educational resource, and we remain as dedicated as ever to improving the site, expanding our resources, and providing our users with innovative new features and tools.”
