TheFreeDictionary Launches Community Toolbar Powered by Conduit

HUNTINGDON VALLEY, PA, September 22, 2009 - Farlex, Inc., publisher of the world's most comprehensive database of online reference material, has announced the launch of a unique community toolbar for its flagship site, TheFreeDictionary.com, powered by Conduit® enabling web publishers to distribute their offerings directly and through its global network of publishers.

TheFreeDictionary Community Toolbar provides a conduit between the company and its users who now have quick and easy access to many of the site’s most popular features from anywhere on the Web. It is free to download and use, integrates seamlessly with various browsers (e.g., Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari), installs in seconds, and requires no registration.

The community toolbar provides users with instant access to TheFreeDictionary.com’s popular, educational daily content, including Word of the Day, News of the Day, Article of the Day, Today’s Birthday, Quote of the Day, and This Day in History. Toolbar users can also access the site’s popular vocabulary games, such as Spelling Bee, Match Up, and Hangman, as well as dozens of other online games, with just the click of a button; and an e-mail notifier feature allows users to see new e-mail message counts and access them right from the toolbar. Other items on the toolbar include local weather information, TheFreeDictionary Language Forums topics feed, Twitter feeds, and a radio player. Perhaps the most important feature of the new toolbar, though, is its customizability, which means that each user can adjust it to best suit his or her needs.

"Our primary goal at Farlex is to enrich the user experience not just by adding new educational content but by developing new features that allow our users to access this information in fresh and innovative ways,” said Nick Simonov, co-founder and president of Farlex, Inc. “We chose Conduit to power this dynamic community toolbar because their powerful platform enables easy delivery of the site’s latest content — users can now interact with the applications and information right in the browser window.  We don’t have to maintain any software and the users have all our best features available at the touch of a button.”

“Farlex is one of the most innovative companies in the world because they not only have excellent content, but also have an intuitive grasp on how their users want to consume their products,” said Adam Boyden, President of Conduit. “By using the Conduit Platform they have another powerful tool for their marketing toolkit, a compelling content delivery method, and a huge new distribution channel.”

Farlex is also leveraging the Conduit Platform to drive customer acquisition by adding TheFreeDictionary games component to the Conduit Marketplace.  Now more than 200,000 web publishers and over 60 million active users in the Conduit Network can add this component to their community toolbars.

TheFreeDictionary.com debuted as a simple, free online dictionary catering to U.S. customers and has since evolved into one of the most authoritative reference sites on the Web, serving a global network of users. Today, the site offers access to multilingual dictionary content spanning more than 40 languages; computing, medical, legal, and financial dictionaries; a thesaurus; several encyclopedias; and much more.
